Overblow - Harmonica - Examples

Major scales for all positions.
Played on a C diatonic harmonica.

The major scale is constructed in the following order of whole (w) and half (h) steps.
w-w-h-w-w-w-h

in the key of C this becomes: C D E F G A B C (all the white keys on the piano)

when I play the scales it doesn't sound right. I don't know why because the bends sound good and so do the over blows. please help me.

@Lee: Maybe you should read the site. It is all about what you have to do to play overblows. In short you bend down the blownote until it chokes so that the drawreed is able to sound.

Are you saying that when you overblow, you blow into the hole differently than normal and the note goes up? How differently? What is the embochure setting for doin this? What are my lips and throat doing for the overblow vs th drawbend? (I can drawbend pretty well for blues.)

Are you playing these scales using chromatic notes on the C diatonic Harp in the stated position or are you varying the harp keys in any of the examples? Because of the smoothness I cannot tell, but if they all are played on the C Harp, Kudos.

Yes, thanx! now it works, i didnt dare to bend that far ;)
hm.. today ill buy a harmonica for a bit more than 8 euro and try if it works better... a full note bend with my crap fills my lungs completely ;)

I play a regular C harp. The F and the A in the first position are notes that require bending on the diatonic harmonica.

Hi there!
Are you playing a low C harp or a regular bluesharp? something that buggs me is the note missing on the second draw on most bluesharps, but not on chromatics and some melody/solist-models.
You seamed to pass the first position C scale effortles in the low register, did you bend any note or are your harmonica tuned like a chrom?

Thanx for a very usefull site for pros and complete beginners as me ;)

The numbers in the layout page indicate the harmonica holes. above them are the blownotes. Above the blownotes are the overblows and blowbends. Below the numbers are the drawnotes adn below the drawnotes are the bends and overdraws.

i've just finished my fourth harp lesson and i'm practising scales. do u have examples of minor scales?
